Desmond (1919-1985, born Giovanni Alfredo De Simone in Detroit,
Michigan) had a smooth singing style which earned him the nicknames "the
Creamer" and "the G. I. Frank Sinatra". Before World War II, he sang with
the bands of Bob Crosby and Gene Krupa. While in the service he was part of
Glenn Miller's Air Force Band. He had prominent roles in some films of the
mid-50s, action movies (Escape from San Quentin) as well as musicals
(Say, Darling, and he was the replacement Nicki Arnstein in the original
Funny Girl). He sang on radio (Don McNeill's Breakfast Club) and
on TV's Hit Parade. His biggest hits were "C'est Si Bon" and "The High
and the Mighty." Lightly soiled. Corners and margins slightly worn. Stray
pin-size ink spots under left of image. Otherwise, fine
condition.
