JOHNNY DOWNS and ART (LONDON) LUND
He signs his "Best Wishes" to a fan
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/Johnny Downs" in pencil and, on verso, "Art London" in pencil, 5½x4½ album leaf. Magazine photographs of Downs, b/w, 1x1½ and 1½x1¾, affixed at upper and lower right corners of front. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at lower margin of verso: "Benny Goodman Orch." JOHNNY DOWNS (1913-1994) appeared as Johnny in numerous Our Gang comedies (1923-1927). An actor who could also sing and dance, he appeared on Broadway and in many "college musicals" of the 1930s. His one directing effort, Call Me Madam, earned a Best Director nomination from the Directors' Guild of America. He later became a popular television personality in San Diego. ART LUND (1915-1990), who was also billed as Art London, was a vocalist for the big bands of Benny Goodman (where he sang with Peggy Lee), Jimmy Joy and Harry James. Lund also appeared on Ken Murray's radio show. After appearing on a 1956 episode of Toast of the Town, Lund he was seen on the small screen in made-for-TV movies, in the miniseries, The Winds of War (1983), and Lund was a guest star in several TV shows, from Wagon Train (1962) to Knight Rider (1984). He also appeared in a number of feature films, including The Molly Maguires (1970), The Last American Hero (1973), Baby Blue Marine (1976) and It's Alive III: Island of the Active (1987, his last film). Lightly creased. Lightly soiled and stained, light stain at the upper loop of the "J" of Johnny. Light stain at lower right margin of verso appears to be from an image of either London or Goodman. Minor show through on both sides, touching the "A" of Art. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Overall, fine condition.
