Signature: " Johnnie/Johnston ", 3½x2 lined paper affixed to
5x4½ green album leaf with tape at corners. ¾x1 photo stamp affixed and date
(unknown hand) at upper right. American actor and singer Johnny Johnston
(1915-1996), who was also billed as Johnnie Johnson, had started his career
with Art Kassels band and later became a popular guitar-playing radio
crooner. After signing to Capitol Records in 1942 (one of the first four
artists to sign with the label), Johnston recorded the standard, "That Old
Black Magic" and the million-selling song, "Laura". Married to Kathryn
Grayson from 1947-1951, Johnston appeared in a number of feature
films, including Star Spangled Rhythm and Sweater Girl (both
1942), Till the Clouds Roll By (1946), Lady Godiva Rides Again
(1951), Unchained (1955) and Rock Around the Clock (1956). Left
edge chipped from previous binding. Tape and adhesive stains at corners of lined
paper. Otherwise, fine condition.
