JOHNNY KLIPPSTEIN
Black and white postcard photograph (3½x5½) of the ball player getting ready to pitch
Photograph signed: "Johnny Klippstein". B/w, 3½x5½. Johnny Klippstein (1927-2003) was
sometimes called "the wild man of Borneo" because of his frequent control troubles. In
1958, Dodger manager Walter Alston transitioned him to the bullpen and he began playing
almost exclusively as a reliever. With the Indians for one season, he had a league-leading 14
saves in 1960. Five years later, as a member of the Minnesota bullpen alongside ace Al
Worthington, Klippstein went 9-3 with five saves to help the Twins to their first pennant.
He finished with 66 career saves. Fine condition.
