He has penned the opening measures of his "The Voice of Freedom", adding the lyrics: "The voice of freedom is heard in our/land a voice ringing strong and clear". Singer and composer and conductor Johnny Mann (1928-2014) is probably best known as leader of the Johnny Mann Singers, a vocal group that hosted its own TV show, Stand Up and Cheer, in 1971. Known for their clean-cut music and dress, the Johnny Mann Singers earned Grammies for their album Great Band With Great Voices in 1961 and their single Up-Up and Away in 1967. Mann was music director of The Joey Bishop Show, The NBC Comedy Hour, and The Alvin Show (doubling as the voice of Alvin the Chipmunk). Mann ran recording sessions for Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette and The Crickets. He composed "The Voice of Freedom", first released on an album of patriotic music by the Johnny Mann Singers, is now in the repertoire of the US Army Field Band. Mann is also a noted composer of radio jingles. Fine condition.
