JOHNNY MERCER. Inscribed signature: "To Peter B --/Affectionately Yours/Johnny/Mercer" in pencil on his imprinted letterhead, 5¾x6¼. Los Angeles, California, 1962 June 14. In 1942, songwriter Johnny Mercer, businessman Glenn Wallichs and songwriter/producer Buddy DeSylva founded Capitol Records. Mercer wrote a string of hits for his label, including "Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe", "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive", "Candy" and "Personality". While running Capitol, Mercer the talent scout attracted such performers as Nat King Cole, Stan Kenton, Jo Stafford and Margaret Whiting to the label, where they had their greatest successes. In 1955, Mercer sold his share in Capitol Records. He was the first songwriter to win four Academy Awards. Light folds touch 3 words of writing.Clipped at upper corners.
