Mercer", 5x3 card. In 1942, songwriter Johnny Mercer, businessman Glenn
Wallichs and songwriter/producer Buddy DeSylva founded Capitol Records.
Mercer wrote a string of hits for his label, including "Atchison, Topeka and
Santa Fe", "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive", "Candy" and "Personality". While
running Capitol, Mercer the talent scout attracted such performers as Nat King
Cole, Stan Kenton, Jo Stafford and Margaret Whiting to the label, where they had
their greatest successes. In 1955, Mercer sold his share in Capitol Records. He
was the first songwriter to win four Academy Awards. Fine
