Sale Price $1,020.00
Vintage black and white movie still from Tarzan and His Mate (1934) showing Johnny Weissmuller in the tile role
Photograph signed: "Johnny/Weissmuller/1-7-35". B/w, 9¼x7. Pictured with Maureen O'Sullivan, Paul Cavanagh and Forrester Harvey [none signing] in Tarzan and His Mate (1934). One of the last films made before the Hayes "morality" guidelines went into effect, this was the sexiest of the Tarzan films, and a fan favorite. Johnny Weissmuller (1904-1984) won five gold medals as a swimmer at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics, setting many free-style records. He appeared in several sports shorts, then was hired by MGM to play Tarzan onscreen. Beginning in 1932, he starred in 12 Tarzan adventures, meanwhile doing almost no other film work. In the late 1940s, he quit Tarzan and began starring in a new series, Jungle Jim, while occasionally appearing in other films through the mid 1950s, after which he retired from acting. Fine condition.
