Loew's Incorporated 1954 reproduction of a promotional poster for the 1932 film, Tarzan The Ape Man, M-G-M's inaugural Tarzan film and the first to star Johnny Weissmuller in the title role. The cast also included Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane Parker, who is abducted by apes and teaches the Ape Man to speak English, C. Aubrey Smith as her father, white hunter James Parker, and Neil Hamilton as Jane's beau, Harry Holt. From 1932-1948, Weissmuller starred as Tarzan in 12 films, beginning with Tarzan the Ape Man and ending with Tarzan and the Mermaid. Johnny Weissmuller (1904-1984) had won five Olympic Gold Medals as a free-style swimmer (1924, 1928), setting several free-style records, before appearing in sports "shorts" and then being hired by M-G-M to play Tarzan. He was also known for his roles in the Jungle Jim television series and films. After retiring from acting in the mid-1950s, Weissmuller was a successful businessman. Lightly creased with folds, touching second line of headline. Lightly soiled. ¼-inch tear at lower left blank margin. Staple holes at upper left background. Overall, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 19½x23¼.
