JONATHAN WINTERS
The actor/comedian signs off on a check for the amount of $431.35
Check signed and endorsed: "Jonathan/Winters", 8½x3½. Beverly Hills, California, 1978 October 6. Check No. 2117, drawn on his company's account, Wintergood, Inc., at the City National Bank, payable to Jonathan Winters for $431.35. In the year he signed this check, Winters appeared as himself on "Mickey's 50", a special anniversary episode of TV's Disneyland. "Pound for pound, Winters is the funniest man on earth." These words were spoken by talk show host Jack Paar in the early 1960s. Comedian and actor Jonathan Winters (1925-2013) began his career on television on CBS' daytime The Garry Moore Show, where he introduced such imperishable characters as freewheeling senior citizen Maudie Frickett and doltish Elwood P. Suggins. During the 1964-1965 season, Winters starred in a group of well-received specials, and was also a frequent guest on The Tonight Show, The Jack Paar Program and The Andy Williams Show. Winters, who hosted his own programs, The Jonathan Winters Show (1967-1969) and The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters (1972-1974), is also well known to television audiences for his role as Mearth from the Earth (1981-1982), the son of the title characters of the sitcom, Mork & Mindy. Winters, who made his film debut in the all-star It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), has co-starred films including The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming (1966), The Shadow (1994), The Flintstones (1994) and The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle (2000). Lightly creased with folds, light vertical fold at the first "n" of Jonathan. Bank stamps on verso underline signature, light show through at the upper loops of the "W" and "t" in Winters on front signature. Ink notes at upper right margin on front and on verso (minor show through at blank area). Otherwise, fine condition.
