Photograph signed: "Jose Cardenal". B/w, 3¼x5½. Cuban
immigrant Jose Cardenal (b . 1943) played for nine teams during eighteen seasons
in the Major Leagues (1963-1980); his cousin was A's shortstop Bert
Campaneris. Cardenal was a speedy baserunner with good range and a strong arm in
centerfield. He stole 20 or more bases ten times. Traded from the
Phillies to the Mets on the day of a twi-night double-header in 1979, he played
the first game for the Phils, switched uniforms, and played the second game for
New York. A coach for several teams after his playing days, Cardenal auctioned
his World Series ring (obtained with the KC Royals in 1980) to aid victims of
hurricane Katrina. Slightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine
condition.
