Printed card signed in ink: "Jose Cardenal", in blue felt tip,
5x3. Cuban immigrant Jose Cardenal (b. 1943) played for nine teams during
eighteen seasons in the Major Leagues (1963-1980); his cousin was A's
shortstop Bert Campaneris. Cardenal was a speedy baserunner with good range and
a strong arm in centerfield. He stole 20 or more bases ten times. Traded
from the Phillies to the Mets on the day of a twi-night double-header in 1979,
he played the first game for the Phils, switched uniforms, and played the second
game for New York. A coach for several teams after his playing days, Cardenal
auctioned his World Series ring (obtained with the KC Royals in 1980) to aid
victims of hurricane Katrina. Fine condition.
