attn: Peter Davis, New York, N.Y. In full: "Re: 'The Silver Whistle'.
This is to confirm our understanding that I am to continue with your play, 'The
Silver Whistle' up to and including the 28th day of May, 1949, and my notice to
you dated April 19th, 1949, terminating my engagement on May 21st, 1949, is
hereby amended accordingly. Sincerely yours," José Ferrer
(1912-1992) won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Actor for reprising his 1947
Tony Award winning title role in Cyrano de Bergerac. He had
previously been nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar as the Dauphin in
Joan of Arc (1948) and would be nominated again for Best Actor in 1952
for his portrayal of painter Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge.
Produced by The Theatre Guild, The Silver Whistle opened on Broadway
on November 24, 1948 and closed on May 28, 1949, as specified in this letter.
