JOSEPH ALEXANDER ALTSHELER
Altsheler dated and signed this card "With His Best Wishes, To the Little
Lady, Who Owns This Card" in New York in 1909
Autograph Note Signed: "Joseph A. Altsheler,/With His Best Wishes,/To the
Little Lady,/Who Owns This Card. New York, February, 18, 1909." in purple
ink.3x2 fabric-textured cardstock. Altsheler published two books -
The Free Rangers and The Last of the Chiefs - the year that he
signed this letter. Altsheler (1862-1919, born in Three Springs,
Kentucky) is an American author who published over 50 books between 1896 and
1918, many of them juvenile historical fiction. He got his start in writing in
1885 as a reporter and editor at the Louisville Courier-Journal and,
later, with the New York World. He was the paper's Hawaiian correspondent
and then editor for the paper's tri-weekly magazine and he apparently started
writing children's stories because of a lack of suitable stories for the
magazine. Lightly toned. Left edge is lightly dented. Otherwise, fine
condition.
