Card signed and dated in Ohio while Foraker was a United States Senator
Signature: "J. B. Foraker/Ohio/April 19, 1898". A Civil War veteran, lawyer and state judge, Foraker (1846-1917) was Governor of Ohio (1886-1890) and United States Senator (1897-1909). He unsuccessfully sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1908. During the Civil War, he was a private in Company A of the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was eventually promoted to lieutenant and was brevetted a captain after the war. Lightly toned. "l" and "19" in date are lightly smudged but legible. Adhesive residue on back, which does not show through on front. Otherwise, fine condition.
