JOSEPH B. FORAKER. Manuscript Letter signed: "J. B. Foraker" as Governor, 2 p, 5¼x8¼. On letterhead of Executive Chamber. Columbus, Ohio, 1887 November 14. To James B. Lehmaier, Esq, New York City. Signed on 2nd page. In full: "I write to thank you both for your telegram of congratulations and also for your letter. We were greatly disappointed by the result in your State. We felt quite confident that Grant would be elected. I do not know whether I shall have occasion to go to New York soon or not, but I hardly think I shall. Please keep me advised of political movements as they may occur in your city and State, and believe me to be as every yours." A Civil War veteran, lawyer and state judge, Foraker (1846-1917) was Governor of Ohio (1886-1890) and U.S. Senator (1897-1909). He unsuccessfully sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1908. File holes on left edge, one broken through to edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
