JOSEPH BARBERA.Original Art inscribed and signed: "To George/a good
friend/from Joe Barbera/&/Yogi Bear/1-9-78", 5x6. Original pen and ink drawing of Yogi
Bear, who was "starring" in his own animated series, The Yogi Bear Show
(1961-1988), at the time his creator signed this drawing. Yogi was also starred in the
feature film, Hey There, It's Yogi Bear (1964). The lovable, picnic-stealing Jellystone Park
bear, a self-appointed pain-in-the-side to Ranger Smith and tourists, often spouted that he was
"smarter than the average bear". The Brooklyn-accented bear also took charge of
corrupting his little sidekick, Boo-Boo. After Yogi's creator, Joseph Barbera (1911-2006),
and William Hanna (1910-2001) joined MGM in 1937, they produced more than 100 short
films featuring their cat and mouse heroes, Tom and Jerry, earning seven Academy Awards.
In 1957, the animators left MGM to begin their own production company, Hanna-Barbera,
which introduced such classic cartoon characters and animated television series as Quick Draw
McGraw, The Flintstones, Top Cat, The Jetsons, Magilla Gorilla, Johnny Quest and
Scooby-Doo, Where are You! in addition to Yogi and his friends. Tape stains show through at
five places, most at blank areas, one at the "Y" of Yogi. Fine condition. Framed to an overall
size of 9½x15.
