Photo by Clarence Sinclair Bull and MGM, with purple ink photo credit stamp on verso. In 1937, Calleia starred in Man of the People. Joseph "Peppino" Micoli was the owner of Peppino's Restaurant on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. Maltese character actor Calleia (1897-1975) frequently played villains in his early screen career, but he broke out of this mold near the end to deliver some memorable performances, including the Mexican priest in The Littlest Outlaw (1955) and Police Sgt. Pete Menzies in Touch of Evil (1958). Calleia was also a stage actor with seven Broadway credits between 1926 and 1935, including roles in the original Broadway productions of The Front Page (1928-1929) and Grand Hotel (1930-1931). Lightly toned, stained, cracked, creased and bowed. Light scuff marks, which touch signature. Missing bottom right corner. Rounded, creased and worn corners, with paper loss in top corners. Photo is lightly chipped along edges. Mounting residue on verso (no show-through). Light scratches on image (not visible head on). Light tears in bottom left corner. Light dent at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
