Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Doris-/Sincerely/Joseph Calleia/1940". B/w, 5x7. Maltese
character actor Joseph Calleia (1897-1975) frequently played villains in his early screen
career, but he broke out of this mold near the end to deliver some memorable performances,
including the Mexican priest in The Littlest Outlaw (1955) and Police Sgt. Pete Menzies
in Touch of Evil (1958). Calleia was also a stage actor with 7 Broadway credits between 1926
and 1935, including roles in the original Broadway productions of The Front Page
(1928-1929) and Grand Hotel (1930-1931). Corners lightly creased. Printing defect on
bottom left corner. Lightly toned on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
