Black and white 3¼x5¼ photograph of the character actor shown leaning on a table wearing a suit and tie
Inscribed photograph signed "To. Sheila/Joseph Calleia" in blue ink. B/w, 3¼x5¼ overall, 4¾x5¼ image, one surface. Maltese character actor Calleia (1897-1975) frequently played villains in his early screen career, but he broke out of this mold near the end to deliver some memorable performances, including the Mexican priest in The Littlest Outlaw (1955) and Police Sgt. Pete Menzies in Touch of Evil (1958). Calleia was also a stage actor with 7 Broadway credits between 1926 and 1935, including roles in the original Broadway productions of The Front Page (1928-1929) and Grand Hotel (1930-1931). Lightly toned, silvered, creased and bowed. Siganture is lightly smeared in places, but legible. Adhesive residue in bottom right corner (does not touch signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
