JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN
Signature of the British politician who served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1895-1903.
Signature: "J. Chamberlain", in black ink, 3¾x3¾ attached to sheet of same size (2 surfaces). Small clipping of his facsimile signature attached at lower margin with newspaper clipping. Joseph Chamberlain (1836-1914) was a British politician who served as the Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1895-1903. He also served as President of the Local Government Board, President of the Board of Trade, a Member of Parliament for Birmingham West, and a Member of Parliament for Birmingham. He also was the President of the National Liberal Federation from 1877 to 1880. While he is famously known for being a self-made businessman without receiving a college education, Chamberlain was elected the Rector of the University of Glasgow in 1896 (until 1899) and the Chancellor of the University of Birmingham in 1900, serving until his death in 1914. In 1906 he served in place of Arthur Balfour as Leader of the Opposition. Attached to sheet of similar size (2 surfaces). Creased. Lightly soiled at margins. Otherwise, fine condition.
