JOSEPH M. BARR. TLS: "Joseph M. Barr" as Mayor of
Pittsburgh, 1p, 8½x11. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1969 December 4. On
embossed letterhead to Mr. Danny Franklin, Sunnyslope, Arizona. In full:
"The job of being the Mayor of a major metropolitan center has its
difficulties and its rewards. One of the latter, is receiving letters from
young people like yourself. I consider it an honor to be included in your
letter and photographic collection of national figures, for it helps me to
realize that my efforts on behalf of the citizens of the City of Pittsburgh and
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have not been in vain. My best wishes to
you for success in the future. Very truly yours". Joseph Moran Barr
(1906-1982) was Mayor of Pittsburgh from 1959-1969. In 1940, he was
elected as Pennsylvania's youngest state senator, representing the area of
Harrisburg. Barr served in the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1941 until
his election as Mayor. He was Democratic State Chair from 1954-1959.
Lightly creased. Paper clip impression and stain at upper left blank margin,
slightly soiled at lower margin. Fine condition.
