Y., March 25, 1989, 25-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Joseph Schwantner (b. 1943), winner of the Charles Ives Prize for young composers (1970), won a Pulitzer Prize in Music for his "Aftertones of Infinity" in 1979. His accessible, eclectic style draws on diverse genres, from French impressionism to African drum rhythms. Schwantner composes orchestral and chamber works. Among his notable creations is "New Morning for the World", a musical composition to accompany the words of Martin Luther King. This work was released on Martin Luther King Day 1994, performed by the Oregon Symphony, paired with an oratorio by Nicholas Flagello. Fine condition.
