JOSH ELLIS
The press agent writes John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, thanking him for a gift of a Screen World issue
Autograph letter signed: "Josh", in blue ink, 6¼x8½ open flat, 6¼x4¼ closed. November 29, 1986. New York City, New York. In full: "John, you wonderful guy - What a surprise mid-autumn gift - Screen World! Next to Theatre World, it's my favorite devour-in-one-huge-gulp-book. It arrived the day after Thanksgiving, the perfect day to enjoy its many wonderful pages. Thank you - you doll. Hope all is well". Joshua Ellis was a major press manager for over 60 Broadway productions. Working through the 1970's and 1980's, he has managed press for plays such as Veronica's Room (1973), The King and I (1977), The Elephant Man (1979), and Big River (1985). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
