Signature of the congressman from Massachusetts who served from 1876-1877. A rare signature!
Signature: "J.G. Abbott/Boston/Mass", 7x3. Josiah Gardner Abbott (1814-1891) served in the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts from 1876 to 1877. He also served in the Massachusetts General Court. A Harvard graduate, Abbott practiced law and taught schools before beginning his political career. He also served as a member of the Massachusetts state constitutional convention, justice of the superior court for Suffolk County, and as an overseer of Harvard University. Irregularly cropped. Toned around edges. Ink notes (unknown had at left edge). Ink blotted but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
