Autograph letter signed: "Josiah Newcomb" in black ink. 1 page, 8x10. December 5, 1908. New York City, New York. Written on Scott, Upson & Newcomb Counsellors at Law letterhead. Addressed to Mr. Bonbeur. In full: "Your kind note of congratulations came while I was away. Thanking you for the same, yours very truly". Josiah T. Newcomb (1868-1994) was an American lawyer and New York politician. After graduating from Williams College in 1892, Newcomb worked as a newspaper editor for the New York Evening Post before studying the law and being admitted to the bar in 1902. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1902-1906, and the State Senate from 1909-1912. He continued to work in politics as a campaign manager for Mayor John Purroy Mitchel's failed re-election, and in 1917. Newcomb furthermore served as Special Counsel for the Electric Bond and Share Company (1917-1927). Normal mailing folds. Toned. Light surface creases throughout Corners rounded. Slightly soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
