JOY HODGES
Classic World War II item: Shown in period hair style, apologizing for the small image on a postcard with cancellation stamp promoting war bonds.
Autograph Note on Postcard Photograph signed: "To Clyde/Best Wishes/Joy Hodges". B/w, 3½x5½ postcard, postmarked St Louis, Missouri, October 22, 1942. Cancellation stamp urges purchases of Defense Bonds. Addressed in her hand on verso, with her handwritten note: "Sorry this is So Small/War Rations!!! [?]" American actress Joy Hodges (1914-2003) appeared in 13 films, mostly musicals and comedies, from 1935 to 1940. She sang in Broadway shows in the same period. Hodges made some TV guest appearances in the 1950s and early 1960s. Hodges met Ronald Reagan while both were working on Des Moines, Iowa radio station WHO, and they became lifelong friends; she was a frequent guest in the White House. Hodges got Reagan a studio interview after he asked her advice on breaking into films. Mounting residue on verso (affecting handwritten note, no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
