Three All-Star Dodgers and their worthy foe, a Giants Hall of Fame pitcher
Baseball Cap signed: "Juan/Marichal/H.O.F. 83" on top of bill; and on bottom of bill "Maury Wills #30", "Steve Garvey" and "Davey Lopes/#15". Blue Los Angeles Dodgers cap with white "LA" lettering sewn on front. Major League Baseball Diamond Collection cap, size 7¼. Marichal has signed in silver ink, the other three in black. The pride of both the Dominican Republic and the Giants, JUAN MARICHALwon 243 games and lost only 142 over 16 marvelous seasons. The high-kicking right-hander enjoyed six 20-win seasons, hurled a no-hitter against Houston in 1963, and was named to nine All-Star teams. The "Dominican Dandy" twice led the National League in complete games and shutouts, finishing 244 contests during his career while fanning 2,303 and compiling a 2.89 ERA. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983. No one epitomized the style of LA Dodger baseball - squeezing out one run at a time - than shortstop MAURY WILLS. He led the league in stolen bases six consecutive years, including 104 stolen bases in 1962, which helped earn him Most Valuable Player honors. Only three players in the 20th century (Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock and Vince Coleman) have had higher 1-season stolen base totals than that.) A 5-time All-Star and 2-time Gold Glove Shortstop, Wills began and ended his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for them in four World Series, three of them victories. The most durable player of his era, first baseman STEVE GARVEY played a NL-record 1,207 consecutive games. Garvey exploded as a NL star in 1974. He was elected to the All-Star team as a write-in candidate that year, and was voted MVP of the game. He followed this up by winning the NL MVP award. Garvey's name would not be left off the All-Star ballot again, and he was elected as a starter the next six years. In 1978, he became the first player to receive more than four million All-Star votes, and he was named MVP of the game that year as well. In ten All-Star Games he hit .393, and his slugging average of .955 is the highest of any player with more than 20 at-bats. The winner of four Gold Gloves, Garvey retired with a .996 fielding average. Second baseman DAVEY LOPES, like Wills, was an accomplished base thief. He tied a 70-year-old record in 1974 by stealing five bases in one game. He led the league in swipes in 1975 and 1976, stealing 38 in a row successfully without getting caught in 1975. He starred for the Dodgers in the 1978 World Series, hitting 3 home runs in a losing effort against the Yankees. Wills played with the Dodgers 1959-1966 and 1969-1972, playing the intervening years for the Pirates and Expos. Lopes was a Dodger 1972-1981, playing the rest of his career through 1987 with the A's, Cubs and Astros. Garvey was a Dodger from 1969-1982, before ending his career with the Padres (1983-1987). Wills, Lopes and Garvey all wore Dodger blue in only one year, 1972. Marichal pitched for the Giants from 1960-1973, facing all three of the other signers. He actually joined the Dodgers for two games in 1975, by which time Wills had retired and the Lopes and Garvey were wearing other uniforms. Fine condition.
