JUDITH EVELYN and VERNON G. CARDY
The actress thanks (presumably performer Hildegarde) for the "honor", with Cardy penning a thoughtful note of thanks to Hildegarde
Autograph sentiment signed: "Thank you for this honor -/Sincerely/Judith Evelyn", "A lovely evening!/Doris Stein", "Eve Stanley/(from California)", "Peggy Ann McKane", "To Hildegarde, -/"Who has never/slammed/the door in my face/or on my fingers"/Vernon G. Cardy/Mount Vernon Ranch/Val David Quebec", 9½x5½. November 15, 1942. American actress JUDITH EVELYN (1913-1967) appeared in four Broadway plays, beginning with Angel Street (which became the film Gaslight) in 1941. She had small but well remembered roles in several films, including the alcoholic "Miss Lonelyhearts" observed by Jimmy Stewart in the Hitchcock classic Rear Window (1954), and Mrs. Higgins in Vincent Price's The Tingler (1959). She was seen on many of the TV playhouses of the 1950s. Judith Evelyn and her husband, Canadian radio producer Andrew Allen, survived the sinking of the SS Athena, the first British passenger ship torpedoed by a German U-boat in World War II (September 3, 1939). VERNON G. CARDY, the son of a successful hotel owner, was himself a successful businessman for several popular hotels across Canada, managing hotels such as The Mount Royal in Montreal.
