Blegen (b.1943) is an American operatic soprano and violinist. Known for her
extensive repertoire in French, Italian and German, Blegen joined the Nuremberg
Opera in 1965. In 1968 she debuted at the Vienna State Opera as Rosina in
The Barber of Seville. She later premiered Menotti's Help, the
Globolinks! at the Santa Fe Opera. In 1970 she debuted at the
Metropolitan Opera in New York where she was featured in over 200 performances
and 19 roles, including Papagena in The Magic Flute (1970). In 1975
she debuted at the London Opera House and in 1977 at the Palais Garnier in
Paris. The recipient of the 1983 Montana Governor's Arts Award, Blegen is
married to retired Metropolitan Opera concertmaster Raymond Gniewek. Ink
