In French, partially translated: "I left Paris several days ago and that's why you had my exposé a little late. I'm equally sorry that I didn't give you an immediate appointment time because of this absence…/ I should be in Paris the 15th or the 16th in order to judge the Prix de Rome contest. Please reply to me by sending a word. I will already be there …to figure everything out./…I would be enchanted to welcome you here. In anticipation of a response, yours faithfully". Jules-Alexis Muenier (1863-1942) was a French painter and photographer. In 1880, Muenier studied in the workshop of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1887, he made his first exhibition with his piece The Breviary. In 1891, his Catechism Lesson was admitted to the Luxembourg Museum in Paris, and two years later, The Beautiful Days was displayed in Chicago. His favorite subjects were scenes of everyday life and nature. He was knighted in the Legion of Honour in 1895 and was elected to the Academie des Beaux-Arts in 1921. He has nearly two hundred works to his credit. Muenier resided for many years in the castle of Coulevon. He is the father of Pierre-Alexis, the French author. Toned. Lightly soiled. Pencil note (unknown hand) near upper right corner and on top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
