Autograph Letter signed: "J. Massenet". 2 p. 4½x7, matted to 14x12 overall. Paris, France, 1886 February 17. In French (translated) in part: " ..I am very grateful for your memories and your great congratulations. I am going to talk to my editor, and will let you know his answer - that I hope will be favorable. Wednesday at 4 O'clock... I will advise you at that time." French Composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912) made his name with the comic opera Don César de Bazan (1872). Other operas followed, including The Virgin (1880), Manon (1884, considered by many to be his masterpiece), Le Cid (1885) and Werther (1892). Lightly toned and soiled. Lightly creased. Minor separation at mailing folds. Fabric matt is stained at lower left corner and right edge has been damaged. Otherwise, fine condition.
