JULES E. MASSENETThe composer pens a letter asking a colleague to meet up and discuss an eventful Sunday Autograph letter signed: "J. Massenet", in black ink, 4½x7. To “My dear director”. In French, translated in full: “I would like to fill you in on my Sunday - Could you host me in your office?/ at what time, today? Yours”. On left side: “I have two interesting communications to let you in on”. French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912) made his name with the comic opera Don César de Bazan (1872). Other operas followed, including Manon (1884), considered by many to be his masterpiece, Le Cid (1885) and Werther (1892). In addition to his ambitious operas and orchestral works, Massenet wrote over 200 popular songs, many of them based on published poems. Massenet composed several tunes put to the words of poet Camille Distel, including “Bonne Nuit”. Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Lightly soiled on outer margins. Fine condition.
