JULIA WARD HOWE
She signs an autograph letter with thanks for a gift of flowers and regrets
for having to miss a meeting.
ALS: "Julia Ward Howe," 2 pages, 4x6, separate sheets. 241 Beacon St.,
(Boston), 1906 April 24. On tan paper. The reformer who wrote
Battle Hymn of the Republic writes to Mrs. Perkins. In full:
"Your May flowers have cheered me very much. They really smell of the
Spring, which the hot house flowers do not. I hope that you had a fine
meeting yesterday. I had fully intended to be present, but the household
authorities said: No, and I was obliged to lose Ellen Mitchell's lecture, which
I wanted very much to hear." Usual folds, else fine.
