Program signed: "Juliet/Prowse", on the back cover and"Fred Strickler" in pencil on page 6. 8p. 8½x11. South African
dancer and actress PROWSE (1936-1996, born in Bombay, India) made her
film debut in Can Can (1960), getting a big career boost when
Soviet dictator Nikita Khrushchev denounced her performance as immoral. A
Las Vegas act, and much publicized relationships with Elvis Presley and Frank
Sinatra, followed. She starred in the TV series Mona McCluskey (1966)
and hosted ballroom dance competitions on PBS, beginning in 1986. She completed
a summer tour of Sugar Babies with Mickey Rooney shortly before her
death. Fred Strickler is a dancer-choreographer-teacher who performed the
role of Marcel in this production. He has created original works for tap and
modern ballet. A Distinguished Professor Emeritus at U.C. Riverside, he has
taught there for more than 40 years. Lightly creased. Fine
condition.
