JULIETTE KOKA
The actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, sending a Cosmopolitan article of another actor proudly touting his Theatre World Award
Autograph letter signed: "Juliette", in blue ink, 1 page (front and verso), 5x6¼. July 5, 1984. In part: "Hello darling, Happened to read this article in "Cosmopolitan" at the hospital. I thought you might be pleased to see how this star is proud of his award to [items not included]". Juliette Koka (1930-2011) was an actress and singer, known for her admiration of and performances as Edith Piaf. She landed the role of Piaf on Broadway after producers saw her one woman show dedicated to the singer and decided to bring her to Broadway. The show had mixed reviews, and ended after one month. Although she had other performances and minor roles, Koka continued to sing Piaf's songs for benefits and local venues. Sadly, she passed away in 2011. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners slightly creased. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
