JULIETTE KOKA
The actress signs her name on a letter to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, talking about her recent schedule and wishing him well
Autograph letter signed: "Juliette", in blue ink, 1 page, 3½x5½. New York City, New York. In full: "John darling! Please forgive me for not write before. But 5-6 h. rehearsals every day + the show at night is quite hectic. But crazy me, love every minute of it. Thank you for your sweet letter. But you are you. I know. Bell went real well and the reviews to. I have that show, now. I am doing a Keru musical. It's really fun and the critics seem to be happy with me - so I am happy to!! I am hiking right on the beach it is really glorious. I hope your short vacation was wonderful - You work to much. I shall return after 8-21. Hope to see you then. Take care darling! Love". Juliette Koka (1930-2011) was an actress and singer, known for her admiration of and performances as Edith Piaf. She landed the role of Piaf on Broadway after producers saw her one woman show dedicated to the singer and decided to bring her to Broadway. The show had mixed reviews, and ended after one month. Although she had other performances and minor roles, Koka continued to sing Piaf's songs for benefits and local venues. Sadly, she passed away in 2011. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners lightly worn. Stray ink mark on left margin (front). Lightly toned. Fine condition.
