JULIUS BOROS
Julius Boros signs a black and white magazine photograph of him holding a
trophy.
Magazine Photograph signed: "Julius Boros". B/w, 6½x9½ overall, image
4½x5¾ (one surface). Captioned in part: "The American Open Champion:
"Julius Nicholas Boros, an almost unknown golfer outside his own locale, created
a sensation by coming up from behind to win the American Open Championship at
Dallas, Texas. ... At the presentation Ben Hogan said Boros was a magician to get
round so difficult a course in such hot weather - the Texas sun cooked the
players - in so low a score." Boros (1920-1994) won 15 PGA tournaments.
His best years were 1952 and 1963, in each of which he won the U.S. Open,
led the tour in winnings and was named Player of the Year. His 1963 PGA
win came in an exciting 18-hole playoff in which he bested Jackie Cupit by three
strokes and Arnold Palmer by six. In 1968, he won the PGA Tournament,
becoming the oldest player ever to win one of the majors. Never a long
driver, Boros excelled with pin point accuracy. He was elected to the PGA
Hall of Fame in 1984. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
