Typescript signed: "Greetings!/June/Havoc". 1p, 8½x11. Excerpt from her book More Havoc. In part: "I saw the ad when I was at Western Union. I planned to send for the fare, but I saw the as (sic): it wasn't anyone's newspaper, so I tore it out. The scrap was covered with magical words, so I didn't sent (sic) the telegram. Instead I ran, I ran all the way SHOWGIRLS WANTED BIG NEW SHOW APPLY 41st BDWY. I was too scrawny for a real showgirl, but maybe...." The sister of celebrated stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, June Havoc (1913-2010) was earning $1500 a week as a vaudeville headliner by age five. She made her Broadway debut in 1936, and four years later scored a big success in the 1940 production of Pal Joey. Moving onto Hollywood, over the next decade Havoc played leads and second leads on many films. Holding a record for marathon dancing in 1933, Havoc wrote and directed the autobiographical Broadway play Marathon 33 (1963). Fine condition.
