JUNE LANG
Lang signed this printed card from an appearance by Myrus, The Man With the
X-Ray Eyes.
Signatures: "Best wishes/of/June Lang", 4x5 sheet. Dancer turned
actress Lang (1915-2005, born Winifred June Vlasek in Minneapolis,
Minnesota), who began her movie career at age 14, appeared with Laurel and
Hardy in Bonnie Scotland (1935), with Warner Baxter and Fredric March
in The Road to Glory (1936) and was Shirley Temple's mother in Wee
Willie Winkie (1937). After her marriage to convicted mobster John
Rosselli, Lang's career spiraled downward, and by 1943, she was playing unbilled
bits in films like Flesh and Fantasy (1943) and Up in Arms
(1944). This card is from a Chicago Theatre appearance by the mentalist Myrus,
"The Man With the X-ray Eyes" and "Wizard of Mental Telepathy", or so this card
claims. Those attending his show were invited to submit questions to Myrus,
whose wife, Elsie, often requested autographs from celebrities attending his
show. The caption "Balaban & Katz" indicates that this particular
performance took place at one of a hundred or so theatres built by the company
in the Midwest - possibly one of two Chicago Theatres built in Chicago,
Illinois. Corner missing at upper left. Lightly creased with folds. Lightly
soiled and stained. Otherwise in fine condition.
