Promotion for the Republic Pictures serial Jungle Drums of Africa
(1953). Directed by Fred C. Brannon and starting Moore and Coates. This was released after Moore had been temporarily fired from TV's The
Lone Ranger, in which he played the title role. Moore is shown on this
lobby card without his Lone Ranger mask. Coates is the daughter of a medical
missionary who is continuing his work after his death. She befriends two
adventurers looking for uranium and must fight off crooks trying to steal the
uranium and local witch doctor. Clayton Moore (1914-1999)entered
show business as a young circus acrobat. He worked his way up the ladder in
Hollywood Westerns from extra to stunt man to supporting actor, reaching
stardom on television as The Lone Ranger from 1949-1952 and
1954-1957. Moore and Jay Silverheels, as his faithful Indian companion
Tonto, also appeared in two feature films in 1956 and 1958. The exact meaning of
"Kemo sabay" is debated, but Tonto seems to have used it to mean something like
"trusted friend." Thereafter he made a good living from commercials and public
appearances as The Lone Ranger. COATES, bornin 1927, starred
in many B-movies of the 1950s, often westerns and science fiction. After playing
Lois Lane in Superman and the Mole Men (1951), she was the first to play
Lois in the TV series, The Adventures of Superman (1952). Her
numerous TV guest appearances in later years included the role of Lois Lane's
mother in the TV series Lois and Clark (1994). Lightly toned and
creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
