After returning home from the St. Patrick's Day Festival, the Irish
author thanks a friend for warm greetings.
Autograph letter signed: "Justin McCarthy", 1 page, 4½x7.
Westgate on Sea, Kent, England, 17 March 1907. To "My dear Olga"
in full: "I send you my most cordial thanks for you kind greetings and
good wishes to me on the return of our Saint Patrick's Festival. I only wish I
could celebrate the festival in dear old Ireland. With my love and best wishes,
Ever truly yours" Justin McCarthy (1830-1912), an Irish politician
who advocated Home Rule as a Member of the British Parliament (1879-1900),
was also a prolific journalist, novelist and historian. His most known works
include A Fair Saxon (1873), Dear Lady Disdain
(1875) and Miss Misanthrope (1878). He also co-authored three
books with Rosa Campbell Praed, including their 1886 novel The Right
Honourable. Normal mailing folds. Creased. Otherwise, fine
