To "My dear Walter Pollock" English writer and journalist, In full: "While I was in Monte Carlo your book came to me and gave me some delightful hours. I did not send you my thanks then, for one of the conditions of my holiday was 'no writing' but I resolved that my first business & pleasure on my return would be the expression of my gratitude for some new & dear friends in the world of animals. But thinking I have now been back some days this is the first time I have been free to write. On my return I found my sister severely ill & she has been ill ever since. She is better now but we are still very anxious. Under these conditions you will understand why I did not write. One again my warm thanks, & with kindest regards to Mrs. Pollock believe me.
