JUSTIN McCARTHY
In this handwritten letter, the Irish author promises to send
dialogue for a play. Accompanied by his unsigned, hand addressed envelope. Two
items.
Autograph letter signed: "Justin H. McCarthy", 1 page, 4½x7.
Chelsea Embankment, London, England, 19 June 1891. To "Dear Miss
Aryerton" in full: "I will send youthe dialogue as soon as
possible. They are being copied. Alas, no I do not act myself. Faithfully
yours" Accompanied by his unsigned hand addressed envelope to
"Miss Margaret Ayerton/21 Woodon Place/W.C." (Creased and toned, heavily
worn).Justin McCarthy (1830-1912), an Irish politician who
advocated Home Rule as a Member of the British Parliament (1879-1900), was
also a prolific journalist, novelist and historian. His most known works include
A Fair Saxon (1873), Dear Lady Disdain (1875) and
Miss Misanthrope (1878). He also co-authored three books with
Rosa Campbell Praed, including their 1886 novel The Right
Honourable. Creased and toned. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
