Autograph letter signed: "Justin McCarthy", 1 page, 4½x7.
Kensington, Jamaica (West Indies), 30 June 1898. To "Wood, Lock &
Co" publishers, London, England, In full: "Gentlemen, Enclosed
please find some lines [not included]. If you think them worthy please
insert them in one of your future serials obliging me with a copy. Very
faithfully yours" Justin McCarthy (1830-1912), an Irish politician
who advocated Home Rule as a Member of the British Parliament (1879-1900),
was also a prolific journalist, novelist and historian. His most known works
include A Fair Saxon (1873), Dear Lady Disdain
(1875) and Miss Misanthrope (1878). He also co-authored three
books with Rosa Campbell Praed, including their 1886 novel The Right
Honourable. Creased and toned. Soiled. Red ink notations (unknown hand) at
top margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
