Autograph letter signed: "Justin McCarthy", 2 pages
(integral), 4½x7. Westgate on Sea, Kent, England, 24 August 1901. To
"My Dear Lady White" in full: "Ever so many thanks for your
welcome gift. You know my awkwardness in matters of food and you are always so
kind and generous in your indulgence of them. The granse [sic] came
safely, and ought to have been at once acknowledged but I insisted on writing
with my own hand--you know a man will always have his own way--women never
do!--but I can't write after the bright daylight has gone. I both thank you most
cordially and we look longingly for your soon coming. Charlottes sends her love
and so do I. Ever truly yours" Justin McCarthy (1830-1912), an
