Lew Alcindor won three consecutive NCAA titles from 1967-1969, leading the
Bruins to a 88-2 record over those seasons. He was also named the NCAA
Tournament's Most Outstanding Player those three years, the first and only
player to do that. His collegiate success and reputation as perhaps the best
college player of all-time, translated into his #1 selection in the 1969 NBA
Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He left UCLA as its all-time leading scorer
with 2,325 points. In his stellar NBA career (1969-1989), Kareem Abdul
Jabbar was League MVP 6 times, and led six teams to the NBA Championship, one
with Milwaukee and five with the L.A. Lakers, his team from 1975 onward.
Jabbar's "sky hook" was an almost unstoppable shot. Alcindor took the Muslim
name Kareem Abdul Jabbar after the 1971 season. Fine
