artist, Dorothy Ahrens: "D.A. Ahrens/1940". The "Songbird of the
South," vocalist KATE SMITH (1907-1986) was one of the most popular
stars of the pre-WWII era. She is best remembered for her definitive
version of the patriotic anthem "God Bless America," which became a hit on no
less than three separate occasions. DOROTHY AHRENS sketched many popular
musical talents of the 1940s, including Ted Lewis and Kate Smith, then
invited them to autograph her art. Slightly creased, touching mouth of
image. ½-inch tear at mid-left blank edge, light paper clip impression at upper
left corner. Lightly smudged. Overall, fine condition.
