Autograph sentiment signed: “Best wishes/Katharine Cornell” in pencil. 4¾x4¼. Stage and
screen actress Katharine Cornell (1898-1974), who was known as "The First Lady of the
American Theater", won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for “Anthony and
Cleopatra” (1948). She also appeared in a number of feature films, including Stage Door
Canteen (1943), and narrated The Unconquered (1954), the story of Helen Keller. Cornell
starred in a Broadway performance of George Bernard Shaw's “Saint George” (March to May
1936). Edges irregular and lightly creased. Pencil note (unknown hand) and surface tear on
verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
