The American actress, known for Diary of a Mad Housewife, sends a thank you letter for Christmas presents in 1966. Extremely rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Katherine", in blue ink. 2 pages (front and verso), 7¼x10. New York City, New York, January 12, 1996. On her personal stationery, to "Helen dear", in full: "Many thanks for the beautiful silver dish for Christmas. I always get a great joy on opening your presents and guessing what is inside. I know you had glorious holiday, and now very busy getting ready for Christina's wedding. How glorious. I hope she will be very, very, happy and I am sure she will be. I didn't visit Palm Desert last winter, and I had planned to go this year, and came on and say hello to you, but my friend of Palm Desert is no more. She died very suddenly--appeared healthy one day and gone the next. All is going fairly well here for me. I appear on a T.V. daily show called 'The Doctors' and the commercial is still running -- good ole Carters. My very best to you, and hope you are well and happy, and have a glorious year. Love". Katherine Meskill (1904-1979) made her earliest screen appearances in minor roles on 1950s programs Studio One in Hollywood, The First Hundred Years and Lux Video Theatre. By 1951 she was a regular on the Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse and Kraft Theatre. Later in her career she played Faith Collins on The Doctors (as noted here, 1963) and Nan Prescott on Where the Heart Is (1969). She is, however, best remembered as Charlotte Rady in Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970). Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
